Turtle Nesting

Please be aware that turtle-nesting season runs from May 1 to October 31.  This means lights out on the beach.   No outdoor lighting shining towards the Gulf.   If you see markers with orange tape around them – DO NOT GO NEAR.  These are turtle nests!  Should you walk along the beach you will see what looks like tractor marks coming from the water and leading back to the water; these are the tracks that mama turtle makes when she comes ashore to lay her eggs.   Every morning the turtle patrol rides along the beach to spot these tracks and put down markers, and police the beach to insure beachside lights are out.  Beach lighting confuses hatchlings and can draw them away from the water.
